Calling All Animals

Forged from the Ore of Gods Own County and hardened on anvils, by the

Smithy’s of the North. Black Spiders were made.

Originally conceived to celebrate the passing over, of a fellow Viking, into a

better place and to entertain the mourning throng, this band of minstrels

knew they were onto something. It went quite well. The booze did floweth

and much merriment was had. After which it seemed rude not to carry on,

after finding inspiration in the whole process and the choice of ‘classic’

standards they did played. Many, many, many, many drinks later, as the

huge burning boats dying embers faded, with the sun coming up, there

seemed to be some vague idea that this might lead somewhere. After

tugging on Odin’s beard for inspiration Pete Spiby (nicknamed the Black

Spider at the dawn of time) started to

cultivate the sound he had in his head and along with side-kick Ozzy Lister

(descendent to Viking King Rollo) quickly banded together the biggest

bunch of rapscallions this side of the Devils Gorge and set about writing

songs from tales of yore. Taking the blueprint from their ancestors, they

enlisted the strongest of their past cohorts - Mark ‘Dark Shark’ Thomas,

‘Tiger’ Si (60th Earl of Chichester), and the sly old stoaty old ‘Fox’,  who

helped pummel and beat the music into shape. It wasn’t long before they

had more than a pocket

full of travelling ballads, to commit to a paying audience. Let otter, hawk,

ass and oxen pay homage to these fine upstanding men………………
